YOUR EDGE IS ONLY THE BEGINNING…

THE TEACHER WHO IS INDEED WISE DOES NOT BID YOU TO ENTER INTO THE HOUSE OF HIS WISDOM BUT RATHER LEADS YOU TO THE THRESHOLD OF YOUR MIND.

-KHALIL GIBRAN

For much of my life, I believed the next challenge was always somewhere out in front of me.

A new mission. A new responsibility. Another goal to pursue.

Over time, I began to realize that the most important work wasn't out there at all. It was learning to quiet the noise, understand who I was becoming, and live in a way that was consistent with my own values.

That realization became the foundation of The Arete Path.

I spent more than two decades in the Navy SEAL Teams, leading, training, and eventually helping develop future SEALs. After leaving the military, I worked with leaders in business, healthcare, education, and other demanding professions. The environments were different, but the conversations were remarkably similar.

People were carrying tremendous responsibility. They were successful by most measures. Yet many felt disconnected from themselves. They had spent years meeting expectations, solving problems, and taking care of everyone around them. Somewhere along the way, they had stopped asking what kind of person they wanted to become.

Life has a way of pulling us outward. Careers, families, ambitions, distractions, and the constant demands of the world compete for our attention. If we're not careful, we can spend years reacting instead of choosing. We keep moving, but we lose sight of the direction.

The work I do is an invitation to return.

That doesn't happen through motivation or quick fixes. It takes reflection. Honest conversations. Meaningful challenge. Sometimes discomfort. The experiences may look different, whether it's coaching, a leadership workshop, or a rite of passage in the mountains, but the purpose is always the same: to create space for people to see themselves more clearly and move forward with greater intention.

The name Arete comes from the ancient Greek idea of living with excellence of character and fulfilling one's highest potential. It's about becoming someone who lives with integrity, serves others well, and continues to grow throughout life.

I don't have all the answers, and I don't believe anyone else does either. What I can offer is perspective gained from years spent leading under pressure, walking alongside others through difficult seasons, and continuing to do the work myself.

The Arete Path exists for people who want to live more deliberately than they did yesterday.

If you're willing to do that work, I'd be honored to walk alongside you.
